Why

My bike was loaded down with camping gear(forecast was calling for snow) and food for a weekend ride and sleeping in the woods.  Chula asked "Why go sleep in a ditch when you could cook here in a proper kitchen and watch a movie on the couch?"  I have no answer.

Why leave a perfectly good job, home, family and friends?  Why go work on the other side of the world where I need to learn, speak a different language, eat different foods (seriously stoked about eating horse) and make new friends?  Why create work for myself?  I have no answer.  The next few months will be a challenge for me and I already miss family and friends.

Maybe my desire to see new places, cultures and push myself to learn.  A friend and colleague of mine explained life as a canvas on which you create your painting.  He asked me what I saw on mine.  Lots of plants with an abstract mix of experiences from spending hours in high tech labs to riding my bike through remote villages in rural Guatemala where Mayans had never seen a honky.  I hope this experience will help me give back to the global community while putting more depth in my canvas.
