Making our way through the desert, we stopped for a hike in Joshua Tree National Park. The Mormons named the tree because its branches reminded them of Joshua's arms outstretched to heaven. Then snotty scientists came along and called them Yucca brievifolia. The Chula Expedition of 2011 renamed it the Extraterrestrial Cheerleader Tree.
Recently finished reading this which brought me current with recent developments about biodiversity which was absolutely stunning in the desert and made hiking progress slow because I was stopping so often.
Our arrival to Southern California was confirmed when a man at the campground asked what we were looking for in the pool area. He casually read the morning paper in a disheveled California prison guard uniform. He had residual smears of bright red lip-stick, large hoop ear-rings and a pink bra poking out from the open work shirt. I like it here.
Big thanks to LtD, LA and Crazy Nate for getting me a replacement bike and soon I have ride reports and will not bore you cycling-centric folks with life dribble.
