Show-Me-State games were at Rock Bridge this weekend. I have not raced much this year because life has gotten in the way, so I suffered at the games. I have ridden a fair amount, but that does not get you in shape for racin.
RB has something for everyone, and this was a great event. The race starts out in a field then dumps into some single track and, if you take the correct line into the single track, you can just fly. Then the trail winds along a short section of creek then gets technical with roots or rocks and short steep climbs for two miles. Then it meanders along a creek bottom with a few berms and sandy sections keeping it interesting. A creek crossing is thrown in for those of you who like wet feet. Then it's a climb out to a short gravel section for a snack, followed by the grasslands section which makes people from Kansas feel at home. Then fast, smooth single track back to a climb that lets you start the whole thing over again. Great course and I was totally cooked. People were dropping me like a hot rock. But I am happy to finish a race without injury or mechanical and have the opportunity to ride 40+ miles of trails in an afternoon close to home.
